VMware Signs Virtualization Deals With Four Server Giants
Tuesday, February 26, 2008
By bMighty.com Staff
In the latest virtualization push, Dell, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard and IBM have all agreed to embed VMware's ESX 3i hypervisor software in select servers. Those products will begin shipping in the next two months.
The deals were announced this morning in Cannes at VMworld Europe. The companies said the joint offering will help customers adopt virtualization with greater speed and simplicity. Virtualization enables businesses to share and pool technology resources, a boon for smaller companies looking to save on equipment and energy costs in their data centers.
"These unified offerings from HP and VMware help customers reduce costs and simplify the management and automation of virtual environments, leading to improved quality of the services that customers deploy," said James Mouton, general manager and senior vice president of HP's Industry Standard Servers, commenting on his company's deal, which involves 10 models of HP ProLiant servers.
