Adobe Teams With Linux
Monday, March 31, 2008
By bMighty.com Staff
The Linux Foundation has a new member: Adobe Systems, which Monday released an early test version of its Adobe Integrated Runtime (AIR) for the open-source operating system.
AIR already lets rich Internet applications (RIAs) run on Windows and Mac OS X desktops using the same technologies as Web applications built to run inside a browser. The version for Linux "is alpha-quality" and "not feature complete," according to Adobe. Known bugs include an inability to work with GNU Java, plus features including document printing and support for multiple monitors were not implemented.
Adobe today also released Adobe Flex Builder Linux alpha 3, which allows developers to build Flex applications using Linux. The company says it plans to work with the Linux Foundation to ensure Adobe RIA technologies are compatible across the Linux software platform, though it has not released any actual source code.
