EBay Cuts Workforce

Monday, March 24, 2008
By bMighty.com Staff

As part of a move to streamline operations, EBay has laid off 125 employees -- 70 of whom work at the company's headquarters in San Jose, Calif. Cuts also affected positions in Europe.

EBay had little to say about the layoffs, other than a company reorganization being the catalyst, not to cut costs. The layoffs, coming just a few weeks before John Donahoe takes over for retiring EBay CEO Meg Whitman, amount to less than 1 percent of the company's total workforce.

The cuts shouldn't come as a total surprise. In late January, some Wall Street analysts predicted a modest reduction in headcount at EBay "in an effort to manage profitability."
