Microsoft Revs Up Windows Mobile

By bMighty.com Staff

Microsoft is working on the 6.1 version of Windows Mobile, the vendor said Tuesday at CTIA Wireless 2008.

The updated operating system, due to appear on smartphones in the second half of the year, will offer quicker phone setup and one-click setup of a Bluetooth headset, and make it easier for users to work with their text messages. When paired with Microsoft's newly announced System Center Mobile Device Manager 2008, IT managers will be able to better manage and secure employees' mobile devices with more than 100 features previously unavailable.

Also in the works, but not ready for release until year's end, is Microsoft's plan to add desktop-browsing quality to IE Mobile, including support for Flash, H. 264 video and Microsoft Silverlight.
