Motorola Invests in Mobile Virtualization
Monday, April 21, 2008
By bMighty.com Staff
Motorola's venture capital division, Motorola Ventures, has made an investment in VirtualLogix, which makes virtualization software that could allow mobile phones and other devices to run multiple operating systems.
In the same way virtualization enables single computer servers to act as multiple machines, it could enable a mobile device to run one OS for basic phone functions and another for user-added applications, or to connect to multiple mobile services. “As the mobile eco-system grows increasingly complex, demand for simplified product designs that allow dynamic mobile experiences to run across multiple platforms will intensify,” said Reese Schroeder, managing director, Motorola Ventures, in the company's release. “Virtualization offers a solution to this complexity."
Other VirtualLogix investors include Cisco Systems, Intel Capital, and Texas Instruments.
