No Joke: Spammers Capitalize on April Fools' Day
Tuesday, April 1, 2008
By bMighty.com Staff
Hackers are taking advantage of April Fools' Day with new releases of the Storm Worm.
The latest spam e-mail campaign aims to trick recipients into visiting Web sites under the control of hackers containing executables with names such as foolsday.exe, Kickme.exe or funny.exe. E-mail subject lines might simply say "April Fool's Day," and in the body of the email: "Doh! April Fools," followed by a numeric URL.
Spam makes up 90 percent of total e-mail volume, according to Google subsidiary Postini, costing U.S. companies large and small billions in in lost productivity and other expenses.
