Adaptec Launches Entry-Level RAID Controllers

Wednesday, May 14, 2008
By bMighty.com Staff

Adaptec has unveiled a new line of entry-level RAID controllers aimed at improving the performance and scalability of low-cost data storage systems.

The Series 2 Unified Serial devices are built on Adaptec's 800-MHz, dual-core RAID-on-Chip (ROC) architecture, eliminating the limitations of software RAID-based hardware solutions commonly found in entry-level systems, according to the company. The controllers can handle hardware RAID 0, 1 and 10 for up to 128 SATA and SAS disk and tape drive systems.

All told, the Series 2 family comprises three products: the $250 Adaptec RAID 2405 Kit with four internal ports; the $225 Adaptec 2405 Single with four internal ports, and the $250 Adaptec 2045 Single. The devices will ship at the end of this month.
