Adobe Systems' Flash Player 10 browser plug-in has gone to beta with new features the company says will help designers and developers create special effects and cinematic Web experiences.
Flash Player 10, code-named Astro, works on all of the major operating systems. It includes support for custom filters and effects, native 3-D transformation and animation capabilities, an extensible rich-text layout and graphics processing unit hardware acceleration. The tool also gives developers more creative control over device font attributes, more text layout options and variable bitrate streaming that adjusts video quality depending on bandwidth availability.
The general release of Flash Player 10 is expected later this year. The beta can be downloaded now from Adobe Labs.
