AMD Launches Low-Power Opterons
Monday, May 12, 2008
By bMighty.com Staff
AMD has introduced five low-power Opteron processors meant for two-, four- and eight-way rack servers and blades.
The HE, or highly efficient, chips "were designed to help datacenter managers who see power consumption and virtualization as the keys to solving their overall performance equation," said AMD exec Randy Allen in a statement. The processors operate in the 55-watt power band, which consumes 30 percent less power than the "standard-wattage," 75-watt Barcelona parts, according to the company. Prices range from $209 to $873.
Last week AMD detailed its two-year product road map, which culminates in the release of the 12-core Magny-Cours server chip.
