HP Serves Up GigE Switches For SMBs

Wednesday, June 25, 2008
By bMighty.com Staff

ProCurve Networking by HP is targeting SMBs with two new Gigabit Ethernet switches that support large file transfers and high bandwidth applications, such as large databases and network backup.

Joining ProCurve 2510G's line are two fully managed, Layer 2 10/100/1000-Mbps Ethernet switches designed for companies with 40 to 300 employees. The switches, available in 24- and 48-port configurations, give smaller companies an affordable way to get up to speed with Gigabit Ethernet, according to HP. Up to 16 switches can be combined in a stackable configuration; they also feature protected ports for segregation and control of network traffic; a choice of authentication methods, including 802.1X, Web and MAC; and remote traffic monitoring.

The 24-port switch (2510G-24) costs roughly $1,100, while the 48-port switch (2510G-48) is priced at $2,000. The switches will ship July 1.
