IBM Readies Data Protection Software

IBM is getting ready to roll out a suite of data protection software based on technology that came along with its buy FilesX earlier this year.

Along with FastBack, IBM also introduced FastBack for Microsoft Exchange and FastBack for Bare Machine Recovery, designed for system and server migrations. Together, the bundled components are sold as TSM FastBack Center. The software is due out mid-August.

Tivoli Storage Manager FastBack offers improved business continuity and near-instant recovery of applications, databases -- including Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL, Lotus Domino, Oracle, DB2 -- and file servers across customer data centers and remote offices. The software employs continuous data protection (CDP), which automates file backups each time a change is made and represents a lower-cost alternatives for SMBs dealing with mounting storage and compliance concerns.

"These new solutions complement our existing data protection software portfolio by offering backup and recovery features tailored for remote office and midmarket customers," said IBM's director of storage software in a statement.
