Open Source: Microsoft Putting More Money Where Its Mouth Is

Microsoft has underscored its support for open source with a $100,000 donation to the Apache Software Foundation.
Also on Microsoft's plate: The software giant plans to participate in the RubySpec project, which features a standard test suite used to define a compliant implementation written in the Ruby object-oriented programming language.
">Speaking at the O'Reilly Open Source Convention in Portland, Ore., Redmond also announced plans to contribute code to support a PHP project called ADOdb, which is a database abstraction library that allows PHP-based applications to communicate with a range of databases, including, now SQL Server. In addition, Microsoft said it will offer royalty-free specs for the Windows Server and .NET Framework protocols under its Open Specification Promise.
