Samsung Hooks Up With GyPSii for Location-Based Mobile Services
Tuesday, July 29, 2008
By bMighty.com Staff
Samsung has signed a multiyear deal with GyPSii, creator of a location-based social networking service that will initially come embedded on Samsung's touchscreen Omnia and SGH-i780 handsets.
Samsung follows in the footsteps of Nokia, which last month announced plans to buy Plazes, maker of a location-based platform that works on both mobile phones and Windows and Mac OS X computers.
GyPSii's application allows users to share geo-tagged content with others, potentially receive location-based advertising, and interact with social networks such as Facebook. It's interoperable across several mobile networks and devices, including the iPhone, BlackBerry, Sympian and Windows Mobile devices. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though the agreement has provisions for revenue sharing, according to the companies (PDF).
