Blogging Is Good Business
Posted by Fredric Paul Monday, Sep 3, 2007, 05:47 PM ET
The folks at SmallBusinessHub are saying that all small businesses should have blogs. I think that may be going a little overboard, but blogs do offer lots of advantages for many smaller companies. And it's really not that hard.
In a recent post, author Jonah Lopin laid out these 6 Reasons Every Small Business Should Be Blogging:
1) Gain Visibility as a Thought Leader
2) Engage Customers in a Dialogue
3) Every Blog Article is an SEO Opportunity
4) Blogs Are Link Bait
5) Humanize Your Brand
6) In Google, Fresher Content = Better Website
Those reasons are all true, and I can think of a couple more:
7) Blogging encourages you to think carefully about your company and your products
8) Blogging encourages you to think about your Web site regularly.
According to Lopin, many small companies say they don't blog because they're too busy or because they worry about revealing too much to customers. But I think the real reasons are:
1) They think blogging is too difficult
2) They think they have nothing to say
3) They think no one will be interested
4) They worry about being seen as silly, stupid, or boring
Don't be shy. All it takes is a little work, a willingness to tell the truth as you see it, and a bit of caring about the needs or your readers. You might find you actually like doing it, and that your customers and readers appreciate it.
After all, how hard can it be? I'm doing it.
