World Series Ticketing System Crashes, Rebounds

Posted by Cora Nucci Wednesday, Oct 24, 2007, 10:20 AM ET

The Colorado Rockies were felled by "an external malicious attack" that crashed its online system Monday.

The system was likely bombarded by ticket brokers using programs that jammed it. Paciolan, an Irvine, Calif. ticketing company operates the ticketing software for the Rockies.

Money quote: "Dave Marcus of McAfee Avert Labs, the research arm of antivirus software maker McAfee Inc., said it sounded like Paciolan didn't configure its software correctly."

By Tuesday, the system was back up and the Rockies sold 50,000 tickets within 2.5 hours.

Predicition: If they don't configure their outfield correctly tonight, the Rockies will be the victims of an altogether different kind of "external malicious attack."

This time it will be Boston Red Sox batters Dustin Pedroia, Kevin Youkilis, Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Mike Lowell, J.D. Drew, Coco Crisp, Julio Lugo, and Jacoby Ellsbury doing the damage.
