Microsoft Office 2004 for the Mac Users Get Their Own Update
Posted by Alan Zeichick Wednesday, May 14, 2008, 12:07 PM ET
Yesterday, we discussed Service Pack 1 for Microsoft Office 2008 for the Mac. The company also released a minor update for Office 2004 for the Mac, bringing it to release 11.4.2
The update — which should show up in your AutoUpdate — can also be downloaded directly from the Microsoft support Web site.
However, the changes in this update are less than exciting. According to Microsoft, it "contains several changes that improve security and stability. These changes include fixes for vulnerabilities that an attacker can use to overwrite the contents of a computer's memory by using malicious code."
The big security flaw, in Microsoft Word, would allow Remote Code Execution attacks. This was an issue for many Microsoft products, including Office 2007 for Windows, and both Office 2004 and Office 2008. (Office 2008 SP1 addressed this issue as well.)
The updates for Office 2008 and Office 2004 are recommended.
