Firefox 3: A Day to Remember (And Monitor Your Network Traffic)
Posted by Benjamin Tomkins Tuesday, Jun 17, 2008, 09:55 AM ET
Not all days are created equal: they're etched in stone or indelible ink or seared in our collective memory. Today at 10:00 AM Pacific Time, Firefox 3 takes a shot at making today a day we'll remember.
These memorable days are memorable for different reasons. The IT and business side of your organization are likely to remember different days for different reasons in different ways. Here's a roster.
--March 10, 2000 -- The dot com bubble pops (memorable for IT and business, everyone loses)
--August 19, 2004 -- Google begins offering stock at $85 per share (memorable for business: closed at $576.20 yesterday...Became memorable for IT when that skyrocketing stock price made it clear Google could do fund any ambition)
--The third Thursday in March -- March Madness slows networks to a crawl (memorable for IT, because they get blamed...memorable for business if their team wins)
--May 2000 (ok, this one isn't a single day) -- The Love Bug hits leaving $7-10 billion in damage behind (memorable for IT, again because they got blamed...memorable for business, because it made "that security" thing important)
--February 19, 2008 -- Lindsay Lohan bares all (memorable for IT because suddenly the network slowed to a crawl [even more so for the IT crew at the crashed NY Magazine site]...memorable for IT only for fans of Lohan)
--June 17, 2008 -- Firefox 3 (could be memorable for IT, if enough jump on the sanctioned world record attempt for most downloads bandwagon, if this turns out to be the turning point when browsers lay claim to the operating system...memorable for business: how many hours will be spent today downloading, configuring, and playing around with the Firefox 3?
Remember today, don't remember today -- but listen to Fred Paul: download it today.
