Word Processing, Spreadsheets... and iPhones!
Posted by Alan Zeichick Friday, Jun 20, 2008, 05:44 PM ET
Who says that iPhones are for such boring things as making phone calls? Even listening to music and surfing the Web, while taking a few photos with a built-in camera, isn't enough for some people. They want their mobile gizmos to replace their desktop computer — and maybe their laptop. No problem.
One solution is Zoho, which is a suite of online productivity and collaboration applications which you use from a Web browser on desktops/notebooks, or using a special web application for iPhones and Windows Mobile devices.
It's hard to think of what's not in Zoho. The suite contains Writer (a word processor), Sheet (spreadsheet), Show (presentations), giving you the basics from Microsoft Office. But there's a lot more, from project management to invoicing to databases to an email service.
Of course, you don't have to think of Zoho as a desktop/notebook replacement, or as a Microsoft Office replacement. You can also think of it as a complement, thanks to plug-ins for Office, Outlook and Firefox.
New from the folks at Zoho is a totally refreshed iPhone interface. So far, it's available on the Writer, Sheet and Creator (database) application, but the company's working hard to roll it out to the other Zoho apps.
There's no quarreling with the price either: There are free versions of every Zoho application.
