EMC Says Celerra NX4 Brings Enterprise Class Storage To SMBs

Posted by Fredric Paul Wednesday, Aug 27, 2008, 09:53 PM ET

According to EMC, small and midsize companies are clamoring for low-end storage products, so the company is trying to satisfy them.

The 5 rack-unit high NX4 offers between 4 and 60 Terabytes of storage. Byte and Switch quotes EMC director of Celerra product marketing Brad Bunce touting the NX4's smaller footprint compared to higher-end Celerra units, and "the ability to combine SAS and SATA drives in the same shelf.”

According to Byte and Switch, Charles King, principal analyst of Pund-IT Research feels that the NX4 could help open up smaller companies to enterprise-level features:

“Obviously, it supports common small business applications like Exchange, but it also supports more business-focused applications like SQL Server, Oracle, and VMware ESX Server... By being able to support SATA and SAS, a small business could use the NX4 to support tiered storage strategies in a single box.”

Just another example of growing companies getting access to enterprise-class technology with smaller configurations and prices to match. NX4 pricing starts at $20,375 for an entry-level set up.
