Mob Making Cyber Moves: Organized Crime Versus Disorganized Defenses

The news that organized crime is now a bigger cyber-havoc player than independent hackers isn't surprising: as Willie Sutton said of banks in the last century, the Net is now "where the money is."

New Scam: Hackers Use Phony Certificate To Seal Victims' ID-Fates

A new approach to password/account info-theft appeals to users' desire for enhanced protection, rather than directly asking for info. The scam asks users to install an important digital security certificate -- which is, of course, anything but secure.

Don't Do As TD Ameritrade Does -- And Don't Do As They Say, Either

The security breach that let spammers get hold of as many as 6.3 million TD Ameritrade customer names, phone numbers and e-mail addresses is being spun as a "Well, they didn't get Social Security numbers, account numbers, PINs or other confidential info; still we apologize for any inconvenience or annoyance," sort of problem. Mistake. Big mistake.
